Eating Out Can Still Be Fun!
Maintaining your low sodium diet when dining out doesn't have to be difficult. Once you learn several "rules" it will become second nature and you will find that eating out at your favorite restaurants is still fun!

Top Tips:

- When ordering, tell the waiter to have the chef refrain from adding any extra salt to your food.

- Ask your waiter to recommend a dish that is low in sodium or can be made that way.

- Stick with your diet! It is very easy when you read a menu to pick out what you want to eat. Instead, select what you know you can eat.

- Avoid fast food restaurants.

- When eating at a Mexican restaurant, refrain from enjoying the free salsa and chips.  (I know - this one's tough!)

- Don't eat dessert unless it's fresh berries. Eating dessert just adds more sodium on to what you've already eaten.

- When ordering pasta dishes, ask for fresh tomatoes, olive oil and fresh herbs in place of tomato or Alfredo sauce.

- Avoid soup. This one is hard but restaurant soup is probably one of the highest sodium dishes you can order.

- When ordering salad, ask for oil and vinegar rather than dressing. Or, request the dressing on the side.

- When eating sushi, don't dip your fish in the soy sauce.

- French fries can be salty. Don't eat them but if you must, tap the fries on your plate to knock off the salt. People will look at you funny, but it's worth it.

- Don't eat out!
